Alan Brazil is furious with the SFA for fining Rangers and Celtic just £7,500 for a mass brawl in the last Old Firm derby.

Alfredo Morelos and Andy Halliday were both sent off in the Gers’ 2-1 defeat at Parkhead in March and the SFA have only recently dished out a punishment to the two Glasgow clubs.

TalkSPORT host Brazil is baffled by how low the sum of the fine is and has suggested that the SFA will never stamp out the problem with their paltry punishments.

“If full responsibility fell on them for the behaviour of players, fans and whatever else, and the punishments hit them hard in the pocket and their points tally, clubs would have to shell out loads of cash to beef up security,” Brazil said on the Sunday Post website.

“As it stands, it’s cheaper to just let players and fans have a riot and take the punishment.

“The evidence is right there – £7,500! What a joke!

“It proves the SFA are completely toothless as an organisation.

“Back in my day, they were being called a bunch of clowns. These days, if anything, it’s even worse.”

OPINION

Brazil is right here, but would any sum of money that Rangers and Celtic are fined be able to stop things like what happened on the pitch at Celtic Park in March? Players don’t try to get in scraps like that, they just happen in the heat of the moment. If the SFA had fined both clubs £100,000 each for the last similar incident, would that be on their minds before the aggro that was on display earlier this year? It’s very unlikely. What the clubs shelve out for fines are not really in the interest of the players because what can the club do other than fine them? And if the club is fined £100,000, does the club pass that fine onto their players? If so, and if it’s spread out among the players, we’re back down to a similar paltry amount that the SFA fined the clubs to start with. It’s a difficult one too because punishments like this need to consistent and a £7,500 fine for Rangers or Celtic is nothing, but when you ask someone lower down the table for that much, it becomes an issue.
