Sky Sports pundit Kris Boyd has admitted “it’s no surprise” to see Rangers interested in signing Ryan Kent from Liverpool after a superb season on loan at Ibrox.

Steven Gerrard, as quoted by the Daily Record, has confirmed that Rangers have “made an offer” to sign the 22-year-old, whose loan deal has now expired after the conclusion of the Scottish Premiership season on Sunday.

And ex-Gers striker Boyd can see why his old club would want to sign Kent after what he showcased when playing against Kilmarnock at the weekend.

“The on-loan Rangers winger was honoured by his fellow pros earlier this month as PFA Scotland Young player of the Year,” Boyd told the Scottish Sun.

“I saw his quality up close again at Rugby Park on Sunday and it’s no surprise Rangers are keen to get him back from Liverpool again next season.”

OPINION

Kent has been absolutely terrific this season and it would save a lot of hassle for Gerrard and director of football Mark Allen if Rangers could just at least agree another loan deal to sign the attacker from Liverpool for another season. If Liverpool won’t agree another temporary deal then try and permanent one. And if that doesn’t work then Rangers should keep on trying until they are powerless. Kent is unlikely to remain at Anfield past the end of the summer transfer window. He’s just had an amazing season at Rangers, scoring six goals and supplying nine assists in 42 appearances across all competitions. It would not make sense to keep him when he isn’t good enough for Jurgen Klopp’s first team, so loaning him out to watch his value grow more would be a good idea, while also cashing in while his stock is high is another option.
