Bournemouth are eyeing up a £15million move for Leeds star Kalvin Phillips, according to Football Insider

The Premier League side completed the signing of Bristol City starlet Lloyd Kelly on Saturday and are now setting their sights on Phillips.

The 23-year-old enjoyed a brilliant campaign under Marcelo Bielsa and made 44 appearances in the league as Leeds narrowly missed out on promotion.

Bournemouth are looking to continue their transfer policy of bringing rising British stars to the club and Phillips certainly fits the bill. David Brooks and Lloyd Kelly are two examples of the Cherries buying young talent in recent times.

The report from Football Insider also claims that fellow Leeds star Jack Clarke is another target of Bournemouth’s.

Phillips still has two years remaining on his current Leeds deal and the club are expected to open contracts talks over an extension.

Good move for Leeds?

Losing Phillips would be a major blow for Leeds. He played a starring role last term and it would be an incredibly difficult task to replace him. Leeds should only sell if the offer is simply too good to turn down – in this market Phillips could really fetch a hefty fee. The club must show ambition and convince Phillips that staying with the club is the best thing for his career – keeping Bielsa would be a strong start. Bournemouth can offer Premier League football but Leeds must do all in their power to keep hold of one of their prized assets. Phillips’ value could become even higher in the future and Leeds must keep that in mind.

Likely to happen?

There is no doubt that there will be high levels of interest in Phillips this summer. He’s one of the few Leeds players who could make a mark in the top-flight. It is still early days in terms of the transfer window and Leeds will have a firm stance on the player so it’s highly unlikely that anything will happen any time soon. Leeds will be desperate not to lose the midfielder and with that in mind, it’ll be very difficult to prise him away from Elland Road.
