Derby County player Mason Bennett has stoked the fires ahead of his side’s play-off semi-final against Leeds sending a “We’re coming for you” message and talking about spygate again.

The two sides are set to meet over two legs for a place in the play-off final, with the first leg taking place on Saturday evening.

“We were fuming about the whole (Spygate) situation with Leeds,” Bennett said in the Derby Telegraph.

“The (Derby) fans have been singing, ‘We’re coming for you’ – I think that’s the message. That’s what we need to do.

“It was a tough week, that week, with them sending a spy down. They can send who they want! We’re in top form at the moment. We’ve only lost one in our last 12, so it’s great form to take into the play-offs. Hopefully, we can kick on now.”

Where do we start with this one? Bennett clearly hasn’t thought this true and clinging to spygate certainly didn’t do them much good at Pride Park when Leeds comprehensively beat them.

Bennett admits the players were fuming and then says Leeds can ‘send who they want’, although after making a big deal of it at the time, Leeds were fined £200,000 despite not breaking a rule.

We would suggest that the Derby players should focus on the football and draw a line under spygate and that’s the response from some Leeds fans, with one saying the Derby players are obviously “rattled”.
