Aston Villa have an agreement in place to sign Kortney Hause on a permanent basis from Wolves, according to Football Insider.

The reliable news outlet claims that Villa have struck a “verbal agreement” with Hause, 23, to become their first summer signing.

It is understood that there is an option in the defender’s loan contract at Villa Park to turn his temporary stay into a permanent one and after achieving promotion, he is set to become an Aston Villa player.

Good move for Aston Villa?

Dean Smith needs to be careful that he is not signing good Championship players to take part in his Premier League campaign next season.

Hause did not manage a single league appearance for Wolves before they loaned him to Aston Villa in January, and triggering the option to sign him permanently should only be made if Smith is confident that he can step up in the top-flight.

The former England Under-21 international had a poor start to life on loan at Villa but slowly grew into his role before an injury saw him lose his spot in Smith’s starting line-up.

The 6ft 3 [transfermarkt] defender is definitely good enough for a top Championship team, but a team trying to stay up in the Premier League? Maybe not.

Likely to happen?

If there is an agreement in place and there is already a clause in his loan deal then yes, it does seem as though it’s only a matter of time before Hause becomes Villa’s first summer signing.

Smith might want to keep hold of all his loan stars after they impressed for him this season, but out of all of them, Hause is definitely going to be the easiest to retain.
