OPINION
Tyrone Mings has been a colossus for Aston Villa since Dean Smith signed him on loan from Bournemouth in January and it is no great surprise to see that the West Midlands club is reportedly in talks to try and sign the defender permanently. According to the Express & Star, Villa have held early talks about buying the 26-year-old but a permanent deal might rest on whether or not the play-off finalists can achieve promotion to the Premier League. Either way, just the thought of signing Mings permanently has some Aston Villa fans thrilled on Twitter – and who can blame them? Many will point to Jack Grealish’s return from injury as the turning point in Villa’s season, but you could also argue that it was the decision to sign Mings. Since he arrived in January, Villa’s defence has improved massively. With the loanee on the pitch, Villa only conceded 14 goals in his 17 appearances. Without Mings Villa conceded 49 in 31 games.

So hope this is true. An awful lot of contracts depend on promotion though
