OPINION
The Sun has reported that Aston Villa are ready to bid £20million to sign striker Neal Maupay from Brentford and while his record was superb in the Championship this season, it is odd to see so many fans thrilled with this news. Yes Maupay, 22, scored 28 goals in 49 appearances across all competitions this season and more than likely has a strong relationship with manager Dean Smith from his days at Griffin Park. However there have to be doubts about whether he can do it in the Premier League and there have to be cheaper, more proven options out there for the newly-promoted Villans. £20million seems like a lot of money for the France Under-21 when West Brom’s Salomon Rondon has a reported £16.5million release clause and proved himself to be more than capable in the top-flight while on loan at Newcastle. If Villa missed out on promotion then obviously Maupay would be a superb signing, but this just seems like a major risk.

Someone asked me before final who I thought #AVFC would buy as a striker for the PL if Tammy went back to Chelsea Without hesitation I said @nealmaupay18 because he's lethal, loves Dean & has that nasty streak. Also only striker I've seen who managed to get round Mings to score

Best striker in The Championship last season. He wouldn't be overawed or bullied in the Premier League and he's clinical as all hell. £20m is a lot of money for a player who hasn't played in that top flight, but for a 22 year old with such a high ceiling I'd be in.
