Aston Villa have informed defender Tommy Elphick and winger Albert Adomah that they will not be remaining at Villa Park next season, according to the Birmingham Mail.

The local outlet report that Dean Smith told Elphick and Adomah, whose contracts expire this summer, that would not be offered fresh terms, after Aston Villa won the Championship play-off final to secure promotion back to the Premier League.

Elphick arrived three-years ago in a £3million move from Bournemouth, but he has found himself down the pecking order at Villa Park at times, and was loaned out to Hull City last summer before being recalled in late December, while Adomah has been more of a success in his three seasons with the club becoming a crucial member of the squad.

Aston Villa right-back will also be leaving the club this summer, with the 34-year-old not being offered fresh terms on his deal, according to the Football Insider.

OPINION

Aston Villa are doing the right thing in freeing up room in their squad and in their potential wage budget by not extending the three players contracts this summer. Smith will be needing to invest funds in his squad on new player this summer, ahead of Villa’s first season back in the Premier League next term. The decision from the club not to offer Adomah a new deal, is perhaps a little surprising given the winger has become an integral part of Villa’s starting line-up in his three seasons at the club, even picking up the club’s Player of the Year award for his performances in the 2017/18 season. However, at the age of 31 the winger is not going to improve any further and Smith might feel he wants to invest in a player that can play a long-term role in his squad. Elphick’s release is less of a surprise given the defender has struggled to stamp his presence of the Villa side since his arrival from Bournemouth.
