Arsenal are in advanced talks to sign Paris Saint-Germain right-back Thomas Meunier, according to Gazzetta dello Sport reporter Nicolo Schira.

The reliable journalist claimed via his personal Twitter account on Thursday afternoon that the Gunners should be able to strike a deal with PSG to sign the 27-year-old Belgium international, who has been offered a five-year deal by the North London club.

Meunier enters the final year of his deal with Ligue 1 champions PSG this summer and appears as though he is heading towards a move to the Emirates to help improve Unai Emery’s defence.

Good move for Arsenal?

Arsenal’s defence has been all over the place at times this season and while Meunier is more used to playing in an attack-minded role at right-back, he is still someone who can stem the flow of goals that Emery’s side have conceded in the last year.

Meunier has great experience of playing with some top players and winning silverware.

He has had a bit of a stop-start campaign due to niggling injury issues in 2018/19, but he still managed to earn 31 appearances in all competitions, score five goals and supplying seven assists.

The 6ft 3 [transfermarkt] Belgian is just what Arsenal need this summer.

Likely to happen?

It does appear as though this deal is close to being complete.

If Arsenal can agree a fee with Paris Saint-Germain then it should not be too difficult to get Meunier to agree that five-year deal that is on the table for him.

Time will tell how this one plays out but the signs are certainly good at the moment.
