COMMENTARY

When Arsenal fans saw Sead Kolasinac bursting into space for the first time during their Europa League final against Chelsea on Wednesday night, they must have been looking on with hope and expectation. The wing back is a powerful runner who has time and again produced a brilliant cross or cut back which has led to a goal. Unfortunately for the north London faithful, his radar and decision making was all over the place in Baku and the fans let him know it on Twitter. The 25-year-old was destroyed for his performance on the left flank in the first 45 minutes and rightly so. He made all the wrong decisions, from crossing instead of shooting and vice versa. In a formation and system where the full back are crucial to success, he is expected to not only be defensively resolute but an attacking outlet to forge chances for himself and others. He might have found himself with some freedom on the wing but Chelsea will have been happy for him to keep getting the ball when he wasted opportunity after opportunity.
