COMMENTARY

Vinnie Jones posted a celebratory tweet after Sheffield United all-but-confirmed promotion to the Premier League and it ended up upsetting some Leeds United fans in the process. The 54-year-old, who played for both Leeds and the Blades in his career, tweeted via his personal account “Get in there you beauty” and directly congratulated Sheffield United, yet due to the Blades’ potential promotion meaning the Whites were set for the play-offs; it didn’t go down well. One Leeds fan claimed they were unfollowing Jones on Twitter as a result, while another revealed they had lost all respect for the ex-Leeds player. It’s fair to say it was a bit of an overreaction by a section of Leeds fans as why shouldn’t Jones tweet Sheffield United his best? The retired footballer clearly just wants all his former clubs to succeed and that shouldn’t be held again him. In an ideal world, Jones would no doubt have loved both Leeds and Sheffield United to go up automatically; so Leeds fans shouldn’t hold his affection for the Blades against him.
