OPINION
Watching top-flight football doesn’t come cheap in England these days and Wolves fans found out the price of success in the Premier League on Wednesday.
The official Wolves Twitter page announced that 19/20 season tickets have gone on sale for existing season ticket holders and some fans were dismayed to see the prices had gone up.
As local journalist Tim Spiers pointed out, the hike meant a 50% price increase from the 17/18 season, although it was still only 5% higher than the last time they were in the Premier League.
And it wasn’t all doom and gloom from the Wolves fans. Some said they were more than happy to pay their bit to watch the current progress at Molineux.
It’s been a great season for Wolves. They might have seen their side knocked out of the FA Cup in heart-breaking fashion last week, when they lost 3-2 to Watford in extra time after being 2-0 up in the second-half of normal time, but they’re currently eighth in the league and have a game in hand on Leicester.
Winning that would see them reclaim seventh, one place behind the power six – Man City, Liverpool, Tottenham, Arsenal, Man United and Chelsea. Not bad for a recently promoted side.
That success has come on the back of some big spending and the club has reportedly agreed a £30million deal for on-loan striker Raul Jimenez.
Given that, it’s perhaps not surprising that fans are split and that some are happy to pay the extra money. However, as one fan put it, the extra revenue made through fans isn’t that much in the scheme of things.
Season tickets for the 2019/20 @premierleague season are now on sale to existing season ticket holders.

Here are the best reactions to the hike in ticket prices:
Be fair mate. It was obvious they were going to go up. The brand of football and progression the club is making, we have to play our part. It aint been excessively piled on mine has gone up £65 which i have no issues with. I understand for some this may not be the case though.

You get what you pay for in this world. Am I paying more? Yes. Am I getting more? Oh yes oh yes.

Don’t pay it then. They need to increase revenue to buy more top class players. Or would you rather us resign James Henry and Leon clarke?

Understand the reasons but it is a worrying trend and there is danger of the price becoming prohibitive for ordinary working class fans!

So,as my lad points out, the club make an extra £1m from this, that's maybe only paying £31m for a Raul, instead of £32m,or maybe not buying a Paul Gladdon at all. But for a lot of fans, £80 extra takes a lot of finding. So,not a massive amount for our club, but is for our people

What did you expect? Price freeze? We beat Chelsea, Liverpool, Utd Twice, West Ham, Leicester at home this season. Worth an extra few quid per game if that continues.

I'll pay it. But not happy about it.
