West Ham are preparing to sell Javier Hernandez this summer, according to reliable outlet Claret & Hugh.

The £140,000-a-week striker [Spotrac] has featured 28 times for the Hammers in all competitions, but is understood to be frustrated by a lack of regular first team action, as well as the underwhelming performance of the club over the course of the season.

It is believed that the Mexican would be happy to leave with just a year left on his current deal, and that the Irons will demand a fee of around £10 million.

OPINION

In truth, this doesn’t come as too much of a surprise. Hernandez has looked brilliant in flashes, but has never really managed to hold down a first team spot week after week, or showed the kind of consistency that is expected of him. You get the distinct feeling that his stay at the London Stadium was never built to last, and the prospect of him leaving probably won’t upset too many fans too much. The Hammers need an overhaul in the summer, that much is clear, and given his exorbitant wages, sanctioning an exit for Hernandez could free up a fair amount of the budget to reinvest elsewhere. There will be no shortage of suitors for his signature, given his knack for finishing, and at £10 million, if that is the fee demanded for him, you would imagine somebody will bite the Hammers’ hand off to take him onboard.
