OPINION

Sam Johnstone had an absolute shocker for West Brom in their 3-2 win against Hull at the Hawthorns on Friday, and it is totally understandable to see so many supporters tearing the goalkeeper to shreds for his performance. Johnstone, 26, should have saved Todd Kane’s long-range shot that equalised just after the break, and when Kane scored his second from a cross-cum-shot, the ex-Manchester United goalkeeper was all over the place. Johnstone has conceded too many goals from long-range this season and while the defenders and midfielders should do a much better job of closing down, the buck stops with him when they are shots that he should be dealing with. Johnstone played very well while on loan at Aston Villa last season and Albion fans have only seen him show that form on a handful of occasions. If West Brom go up, they need a better goalkeeper.
