Everton have been among the Premier League’s biggest spenders under Farhad Moshiri but so far the cash that has been splashed has not resulted in the success they might have wanted.

The likes of Richarlison, Gylfi Sigurdsson and Jordan Pickford have all arrived at Goodison Park and have made a difference, but not enough to get anywhere near breaking the domination of the Premier League’s top six.

Instead they have been left battling it out with the likes of fellow big spenders Wolverhampton Wanderers and the more frugal Watford to finish as the best of the rest among England’s top flight.

After two successive years of big money deals the Everton faithful should not be surprised if their side do not look to dip their toe so deep into the transfer window – but at the same time could see their side make a big name raid if the price is right.

The Sun claim on their website that the Toffees have joined some big name clubs in chasing Tottenham defender Kieran Trippier this summer as the Lilywhites weigh up selling him off – and if Everton could pull that deal off then Moshiri would be making a big statement of intent.

It is reported that Spurs rate the English international at around £40million – a price tag which will be out of Everton’s reach – but with Atletico Madrid said to be readying a £15million offer, it shows where other clubs are valuing him at.

With Seamus Coleman now heading towards the wrong side of 30, not to mention having a hit-and-miss season in terms of form, a new right back would not go amiss and Trippier, who is on £65,000-a-week in north London, (source: Spotrac) would be a serious competitor, if not a massive upgrade, on the Republic of Ireland international.

Those kind of wages are well within Everton’s budget and the opportunity to join an ambitious Premier League side with guaranteed playing time should tempt him too.
