OPINION
What a game. Man City fans might be feeling the blues this morning but when the dust settles (if it ever does), they’ll know their side more than contributed to one of the best Champions League games of all time. Five goals in the first 25 minutes, two huge VAR decisions (one in injury time that decided the tie) and a heroic performance from Tottenham.
Normal rules go out the window, so, while Victor Wanyama didn’t have the best game for Tottenham, many fans have been queuing up on Twitter to praise the player who only looked half fit at the Etihad last night.
There were moments where he looked liked he’d stopped entirely, as the game carried on around him at a hundred miles an hour. But, with Harry Winks injured before the game and Moussa Sissoko injured during the game, Wanyama was the only recognised central midfielder that Tottenham had on the pitch.
Somehow, Tottenham managed to do it, helped by two VAR decisions, including one in injury time when Pep Guardiola went from ecstasy to agony in a split-second as VAR ruled out Raheem Sterling’s hat-trick goal. The air was sucked out of the stadium as the referee confirmed Sergio Aguero was offside in the build-up.
It was an incredible game and Victor Wanyama played his part, even if it wasn’t a vintage performance. Spurs fans didn’t care though and some had their rose-tinted glasses on, proclaiming his performance as proving he’s “back to his best”.
Here are the best reactions from Tottenham fans:
Wanyama was immense tonight. Great to see him back to his best!#COYS #THFC

Heroic performance by this team. No Kane. Sissoko off. Dele clearly not right. No subs of any kind. Son, MOTM. Wanyama, legendary. Llorente’s thigh. Good LORD. #COYS #THFC

I still can't believe that game. Sonny was unbelievable, him and Sissoko easily best players this season, Wanyama showed how missed he has been!
