OPINION
Tottenham are not considering signing a new goalkeeper to replace Hugo Lloris, according to the Daily Mail, and Spurs fans have reacted on Twitter.
Lloris made the headlines again after fumbling a header from Mohamed Salah in the final minute of the game against Liverpool at Anfield on Sunday. The ball ricocheted off Toby Alderweireld and gave Liverpool the win.
It’s not the first mistake he’s made and it led to BBC pundit Jermaine Jenas saying Mauricio Pochettino should axe him. However, manager Pochettino gave Lloris his support for the game against Crystal Palace on Wednesday night, saying (as quoted by Football.London, “He is my captain. He’s one of the best keepers in the world. There’s no doubt… There’s no doubt that Hugo is one of the best and he’s going to be tomorrow in the goal.”
The Mail report claims that Spurs are looking to spend in the summer but have other priorities. They want two central midfielders (if they move Victor Wanyama on), a creative attacker to replace the possibly departing Christian Eriksen, a new left-back, a support striker and a centre-back (if Toby Alderweireld leaves). That’s a lot of business for a club who haven’t made a single signing in the last two transfer windows.
The report adds that a new goalkeeper would be a significant investment and Pochettino is happy with Lloris, and content with his number two Paulo Gazzaniga if his captain’s form gets worse.
The majority of Tottenham fans seem happy with the news, but split over whether Lloris should be dropped in favour of Gazzaniga. Several said Gazzaniga should get a chance, with one asking how many points he has to lose for him to be dropped. However, fans seem to accept that the money should be spent on other areas of the team. After the last two windows, Spurs fans will surely just be happy to see new players coming through the door.

Good he’s our number one and our captain, it should stay that way

Unless my memory escapes me did he not pull us through against Borussia Dortmund with some great saves? Who'd be a goalkeeper eh?

Gazzaniga should be given a shot anyway, he’s been immense every time he’s called on. Would rather have money spent on outfield players

I get Poch trusts in his players but how many points must he cause us to lose, to get dropped from the team?

I hate that it’s like this, but he’s not quality anymore, far too many mistakes for a keeper supposedly challenging for the title. Lord knows how he’s captain.

I mean there are def more important places the team needs to strengthen. Gazzaniga deserves more chances. But we NEED more midfield and full back depth
