Chris Sutton has named a trio of Rangers players in his Scottish Premiership team of the week.

The Gers saw off Hearts in a comprehensive 3-1 win over Hearts on Saturday afternoon, and Sutton has picked out Nikola Katic, Ryan Jack, and Jermain Defoe for their performances.

He also named Steven Gerrard as his manager of the week.

Defoe opened the scoring for the Gers early on in Edinburgh, before Katic and Jack both struck to round out a comfortable win.

Sutton’s team was posted by BT Sport host Darrell Currie via Twitter on Monday.

OPINION

Any praise for Rangers from Sutton is always hard-earned, and it is testament to the performance of Steven Gerrard’s side that he has included a trio of talents in his team of the week. The Gers were much the better side on Saturday, and on a weekend where Celtic faltered again, they must be sitting there wondering how different things might have been had they not suffered that wobble at the turn of the year. Rangers this season have been reminiscent of that quote from the film Anchorman; “60% of the time, it works every time”. On their day, they are brilliant, but that just makes their capitulations all the more bemusing. Thankfully, they were at the races this weekend, but the hop will be now that they can keep that form going into the new campaign, and eradicate some of their needless slips.
