17-year-old striker Troy Parrott can’t stop scoring. He banged in two for the Under-23s when they beat Chelsea 2-0 last week and he did the same again on Monday night. His brace against Swansea won the game for the Spurs U23s 2-1 at the Liberty Stadium.

Tottenham journalist Alasdair Gold said that scoring for the Under-23s was the “next step” for the youngster who he called a “talented young striker”.

His recent form has been enough for many Tottenham fans to demand he gets a promotion up to the first team bench – after the two huge games against Man City.

Tottenham have trouble up top, with Harry Kane out injured again, but you wouldn’t know it. Lucas Moura stepped up with the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium’s first ever hat-trick on Saturday. And they won 4-0 against Huddersfield with Heung-min Son on the bench for 83 minutes.

Both Moura and Son could play against Man City in the Champions League on Wednesday, before the Premier League return on Saturday. That’s going to stretch the forwards but it would still be a big leap for Parrott to make his first-team debut at such an important part of the season.

It would probably take another injury or two for Pochettino to consider promoting him up, but one fan was adamant he wanted it to happen, saying “On the bench v Brighton or riot”.

What is more likely is a look-in during pre-season and it will be fascinating to see if Pochettino thinks he’s good enough to make the step-up next season.

In the meantime, here are the best reactions to his display on Monday night:
