OPINION
You could watch a lifetime of football and never witness as something as breathtakingly mesmeric as Tottenham’s Champions League triumph over Manchester City last night. They may have lost 4-3 on the evening, but this was one of the greatest results in the club’s recent history. Not that Moussa Sissoko knew anything about it. Having been substituted in the 41st minute with a groin injury, the French midfielder immediately left the Spurs bench after Raheem Sterling scored in the closing stages, assuming that the was the tie done and dusted, as reported by the Daily Mail. Obviously VAR intervened, and Spurs were sent into delirium, but Sissoko was clueless. His teammates more than made up for his absence from their on field ecstasy, however, by launching into a stirring rendition of his name as soon as they got back to the dressing room. In behind the scenes footage posted by fan page Paxton Road on Twitter, the squad comes piling into the Etihad changing room, clearly delighted before giving the Frenchman a brilliant show of their appreciation of him. This kind of thing would have been unimaginable a year ago, but the 29-year-old has turned himself into one of the most important players at Mauricio Pochettino’s disposal, and he deserves all the love he gets.
