Graeme Souness has heaped praise on Tottenham forward Lucas Moura, claiming that the Brazilian is a player he’d like to play with.

After dipping in and out of the side since signing from PSG last January, Moura has hit his stride of late, and scored his first hat trick for the club in the 4-0 win over Huddersfield Town last weekend.

And Souness has been quick to sing his praises.

Speaking on Sky Sports’ coverage of Spurs’ trip to Manchester City on Saturday, he said: “He’s one you’d want to play with. I think he’d be infectious.

“He makes other people run around. He’s always on offer. If you’re playing with him, he’s always going to make that little dart. He’d be a pleasure to play with. Maybe now is his time.”

OPINION

It’s quite rare to hear Souness deliver such glowing, uninhibited praise about a player, but Lucas deserves it. He is in fine form at the moment, and has come into the side in the absence of Harry Kane to great effect. His hat trick last weekend might have come against the bottom side in the division, but it was still an exhibition of the quality and poise he possesses, and you would hope that it helps him to kick on and make a more permanent impact for Spurs throughout the rest of the season. He certainly has the talent to do so. He can run at players, he can read the game in an intelligent and productive manner, and he can finish too. In many ways, he is the perfect attacking threat, but he lacks a certain amount consistency, and that has largely been the thing that has held him back during the course of his career. If he can fix that, Spurs could have a real player on their hands.
