Chris Wilder has taken a swipe at Leeds United after Sheffield United’s promotion to the Premier League was confirmed on Sunday.

Leeds failed to beat Aston Villa at Elland Road and that mean that the Blades’ spot in the top-two of the Championship was secured.

Speaking to Sheffield United’s official YouTube account after the promotion was sealed, Wilder hit out at Leeds for their poor form in 2019, pointing out how his side have done better and, for some reason, name-dropping Patrick Bamford and Adam Forsaw.

“We’ve had one defeat in 13 and we’ve got muppets from Leeds talking about precious honours, Bamford and Forshaw and a couple of others and ‘it’s over to you’ and this that and the other,” Wilder said.

“They’ve got beaten seven times since Christmas. We’ve been beaten once.

“We’ve set it up from Christmas to be in the race and steamrolled it.”

OPINION

It is good to see a bit of rivalry between Leeds and Sheffield United, who are not only local rivals to each other but have also been neck and neck for most of the season in the Championship. Leeds did look as though they would have a top-two spot sealed earlier this term, but their form in the last few weeks has been abysmal, with no wins in their last three. It was the two defeats over the Easter weekend that really killed off Leeds’ hopes while Sheffield United have gone about their business and won games that they were expected to win. It’s unclear what Wilder is really irked about in this rant about Leeds. It seems like he has gone off on one a bit by mentioning Bamford and Forshaw – what’s that got to do with anything? He is right about his own side though. They have smashed it since Christmas and fair play to them.
