Alan Shearer has named Tottenham playmaker Lucas Moura in his Premier League team of the week.

The 35 cap Brazilian international was on hand to bag a hat trick against lowly Huddersfield Town on Saturday lunchtime, earning him the nod from the Match of the Day pundit, as announced on the Premier League’s official Twitter.

The flurry of strikes took his tally to 12 for the season in all competitions, and helped Spurs to a vital three points that saw them strengthen their grip on a top four spot.

They now sit third, one point ahead of fifth placed Chelsea, but with a game in hand on their London rivals.

OPINION

To be fair, it would have been a bit bizarre if Lucas hadn’t got the nod on this one. It may have been against struggling Huddersfield, but a Premier League hat trick is no mean feat, and it couldn’t have come at a better time. With Harry Kane ruled out of Wednesday’s Champions League clash with Manchester City, the emphasis will be for goals to come from elsewhere. Obviously Son Heung-min will be reinstated to the starting lineup after his absence at the weekend, but he will need all the help he can get, and Lucas could be the man to provide that assistance. Compared to some of Spurs’ more regular starters, he is something of an unknown entity, fluctuating between the sublime and the anonymous. If he can bring the former quality to the Etihad, he could be the secret weapon needed to help Spurs into the last four.
