James Shan has hailed the “simply awesome” West Brom fans who had the The Hawthorns rocking on Good Friday as the Baggies came from behind to win 3-2 against Hull City.

Kieran Gibbs’ first-half strike and a brace by Dwight Gayle were enough for Albion to earn three points and keep their 100 per cent home record under Shan’s leadership intact.

After the game, a clip emerged of West Brom fans in the Smethwick End in fine voice, and interim boss Shan admitted that watching it gave him goosebumps.

“This is simply awesome and makes the hairs on the back of my neck stand up,” he said via his personal Twitter account on Friday.

OPINION

West Brom’s decision to sack Darren Moore shocked a lot of journalists, pundits and neutral supporters, but what a lot of them failed to consider was Albion’s dreadful home form in 2019 under the former defender. Moore was sacked after the draw with rock-bottom Ipswich on March 9 – at that point their last league win at The Hawthorns was on Boxing Day. Since Shan has become caretaker manager, West Brom have won all four home fixtures, scoring three or more goals on each occasion. If Albion’s home form between January and March was better then they would surely be in the mix to earn automatic promotion. Shan has come in and replaced Moore and stopped the rot at home, the fans are back on side and no one is going to want to visit The Hawthorns in the play-offs. Shan has done a wonderful job considering his lack of experience and he deserves every bit of credit that comes his way.
