Timothy Mjallby, son of former Celtic favourite Johan Mjallby, has taken a swipe at Steven Gerrard’s record as Rangers manager on social media.

Timothy, who used to represent the Hoops youth academy up to U17 level, shared a post on his Twitter account that read: “Steven Gerrard’s record as Rangers manager: no silverware, worse win ratio than his two predecessors, out of every competition at an earlier stage than the previous season, bigger points deficit than at this stage last season, an entire calendar month without a win, tasked with the job of stopping Celtic winning another treble…

“Celtic one match away from winning the treble. English media: ‘He’s been incredibly successful.’”

The 23-year-old Swede then captioned the post with a couple of laughing emojis and some praying hands.

OPINION

Celtic fans will no doubt take great delight in knowing that the son of such a club favourite, who himself might have turned out for the Hoops if it wasn’t for a series of knee injuries, still takes such a strong interest in what’s going on at Ibrox. Rangers fans may claim it is obsession or an unhealthy fixation, but they’d be equally as pleased if the boot was on the other foot. Gerrard’s first season in Scottish football has been a strange one. He came out of the blocks flying, and for a while, probably up until the winter break, there was plenty of reason to believe that he could really upset the apple cart and end Celtic’s dominance of the game. Instead, the wheels have come off a fair bit since the turn of the year, and after a pretty poor collapse in recent times, there isn’t really too much left to play for. You would assume that this is just a foundation, but if things don’t pick up next time around, there could be serious questions asked.
