Chris Sutton has suggested that Celtic manager Neil Lennon should turn to young striker Timothy Weah to combat the Hoops’ current malaise.

The Bhoys have drawn their last two league matches 0-0, and Sutton has argued that the US international could bring something different to the side.

Writing in a column for the Daily Record, he said: “Neil Lennon has taken some flak but I have sympathy for him, and not just because we were team-mates.

“Celtic have struggled to find a way to play this season and it’s looked like there was no Plan B after Moussa Dembele left.

“I’d like to see Timo Weah get a run out at some stage as he brings something different to the side and it could do with a bit of a shake up.”

OPINION

Sutton knows a thing or two about Celtic strikers, so if he suggests giving Weah a run in the side, you would have to ask why not? The young American has impressed when he has featured since signing on loan from PSG, and with the Hoops increasingly lacking imagination in the final third, it can’t hurt to freshen things up a bit. At the end of the day, you can’t score less than zero, which is all they have managed in their last two outings. In truth, whether Celtic find their scoring touch or not before the end of the season, it shouldn’t matter too much. It would take an unprecedented capitulation for them to hand the title to Rangers. But you don’t want to limp over the line, and with a Scottish Cup final on the horizon as well, having a frontline capable of doing some damage certainly wouldn’t go amiss.
