Michael Stewart raved about Celtic boss Neil Lennon’s managerial ability and highlighted his ability to spot a player.

The interim Celtic manager faces a trip to former side Hibernian on Sunday, and Stewart has suggested that the job he did in Edinburgh shows his talent for picking out talent.

Writing in a column for the Scottish Sun, Stewart said: “Neil Lennon has shown he has plenty of attributes as a manager in the last decade.

“But his consistent ability to spot a player is one of his main strengths.

“For proof, you just need to take a look at the Hibs team currently thriving under Paul Heckingbottom.”

OPINION

Neil Lennon deserves an awful lot of credit as manager. There is perhaps an argument to be made that his Celtic side haven’t really flourished in the way that some might have expected it to in the second half of this season, but you have to consider that the Northern Irishman inherited a very tricky situation in the aftermath of Brendan Rodgers’ departure. He has come in, steadied the ship after a monumental disturbance, and ensured that the Hoops are still in track for yet another league title. And it’s all been done in such an understated manner. That’s the thing with Lennon. He’s never going to be a world beater, and he’s never going to leave you for a mid table Premier League side. He is reliable and loyal to a fault, and the only real question is whether that is the kind of man Celtic are looking for, or if they would rather chance their arm on a big name whose reputation precedes him.
