Neil Lennon has revealed that Celtic defender Kieran Tierney might require surgery and could miss the rest of the season.

The 21-year-old has been struggling with a pelvic injury for some time, and his manager confirmed that he could have to go under the knife and was set to see a specialist this week.

Speaking to Sky, as quoted by the Scottish Sun, he said: “He’s a bit sore.

“He’s going to see a specialist this week and we’ll get a sort of clearer indication as to where he is with it.

“He may require surgery but we’re trying to hold that off until the end of the season.”

OPINION

This is bad news for Celtic. Tierney is a vital player for the Hoops, but has struggled this season and has been in and out of the side. Realistically, Celtic should be okay when it comes to securing their fabled treble treble, but nothing is nailed on just yet, and having Tierney fit and available would have been a real boost. Instead, it could be that his season is done and dusted, and Lennon will be gutted. The only plus point to come from this would be that Tierney is clearly suffering with this pelvic injury, and surgery now could help him come back stronger for next term. That will be of little consolation in the immediacy of course, but if there is a silver lining to be taken from his lay-off, it has to be that. The full-back is a special talent, and the last thing a player as young as him needs is pain week in week out. Hopefully this can be the solution to his problems.
