Lennon needs a decision

Celtic are in a weird position at the moment.

The title is theirs, there’s no doubt about that, but they are limping towards it in a dreary manner entirely unbecoming of champions.

Two 0-0 draws in their last two league matches have meant that the champagne has had to be put on ice for a little while longer, but it will be the manner in which those results have been picked up that will have fans worried.

This is a side bereft of ideas at the moment. They are drifting through matches, unable to break down sides they would usually coast past, and it’s almost as if the Hoops have stopped trying.

Frankly, it’s unacceptable, but it’s also understandable.

What’s the point in trying when everything is all but wrapped up anyway? Sure there’s the Scottish Cup final coming up at the end of May, but you can bet that the Bhoys will turn up on the day and make short work of a wholly average Hearts side.

And all of this apathy is underpinned by the fact that Neil Lennon is uncertain about his future at the club.

At the moment, it’s like having a substitute teacher. Why bother putting in the hard graft when you know that there’s going to be a new boss rocking up at Parkhead in a few short weeks?

The club is in a malaise, largely because Lennon has no assurances over his tenure.

The best thing the board could do would be to give it to him and the players straight.

Is he going to be there next year or not? Because if the answer is yes, then he might finally be able to snap Celtic out of this limbo.

It’s not an easy decision, but the Bhoys just need to rip the plaster off and get on with it.
