Willy Sagnol’s representatives have confirmed that the French manager will apply to be Celtic boss in the summer.

Sagnol’s UK-based representative Alex McDonald revealed that the 42-year-old Frenchman was interested in the Celtic job and would submit an application in the near future.

“Willy is definitely interested in the Celtic job and will apply in the summer,” said McDonald, as quoted by the Scottish Sun.

The Scottish Sun claim that Sagnol is hopeful of making the move into management in Britain and was previously linked to the manager’s position at Huddersfield Town ahead of Jan Siewert being appointed.

OPINION

Sagnol isn’t the name Celtic fans would have expected to hear linked with the manager’s job at their club. The 42-year-old’s CV isn’t exactly mind blowing and you feel his potential arrival won’t have supporters excited about the future. Sagnol previously managed Bayern Munich on a interim basis for just a month in 2017, and was Carlo Ancelotti’s assistant manager at the German giants, which is somewhat impressive. The Frenchman aside from that brief spell in charge of Bayern, did manage Bordeaux between 2014 and 2016 and had a brief time in charge of France’s U-21s. While Sagnol may potentially be a great manager, Celtic fans will be expecting someone way more proven to arrive at the club. The Hoops should be looking to build on their domestic dominance by going further in the Champions League, and given how mammoth a task that is, you’d want a known-winner to arrive. Sagnol may have had an illustrious career as a player, but that isn’t a reflection on his potential as a manager. With that mind if he applies, he is unlikely to succeed.
