Dion Dublin shared that he thought Celtic should appoint Neil Lennon as their next permanent manager.

The BBC pundit was asked by Mark Chapman whether as a former Celtic player he would hire Lennon based on permanent basis to lead the club forward.

Dublin acknowledged that while it is the safe appointment to make, it was one that would see the Hoops continue to rack up trophies.

“Yeah I would, I would…he is Celtic through and through and the fans love him as well,” said Dublin on BBC Radio 5 Live (11:53am, Saturday April 20th).

“He is a hero and I don’t think they could go wrong, it’s a safe appointment but yeah I think it would continue to see them win lots of trophies.”

OPINION

Dublin doesn’t exactly spring a surprise with his choice to be the next Celtic manager, but he explains his opinion well. The pundit acknowledges that Lennon is the safe choice, perhaps hinting that it’s the boring option to take, yet justifies why it shouldn’t be ignored. Dublin is right when he says that Lennon is Celtic through and through, as he has certainly been passionate on the sidelines in recent weeks, and it’s right to assume that he is popular among a lot of the supporters. Also Lennon knows all about being in charge of Celtic and would see trophies continue to be added to the cabinet despite Rangers potentially being more of a threat under Steven Gerrard.  The only question you’d have about Lennon being the right man is whether he’d be able to help the Hoops improve in the Champions League. Celtic should be looking to progress in the prestigious tournament and you can’t be sure Lennon has the skill set to achieve that task.
