West Brom will not be looking at appointing Sunderland’s Jack Ross as their new manager despite the Scottish boss being linked with a move to the Hawthorns, according to the Express and Star.

The newspaper claim on their website that Ross, who is currently chasing promotion from League One with the Black Cats, sitting third in the third tier, is not under consideration to take over from caretaker James Shan, with the club still yet to decide on a permanent replacement for Darren Moore.

Ross was linked with a move to the Hawthorns by the Sun (Print edition, 14/04, Page 61) but it seems that he is not on the Baggies’ list of candidates.

Opinion

Ross was a surprise name to be linked with taking charge of West Brom and so it should come as no surprise to hear that he is not being considered. He might be fighting for promotion but it is in League One and no experience of the English Championship or the Premier League, which is ultimately where the club want to be next season, it would have been a huge gamble. Still, there needs to be a decision made sooner rather than later, even if that is keeping Shan in the dugout until the end of the season. At least that would offer short-term certainty to the squad and the fans and give the board time to find a solution to their problem, rather than rushing into a decision right now. The fact Moore was sacked at all is still going to irk many and the longer they leave appointing a replacement, the more it looks like a poor decision from the West Brom chiefs.
