Former Tottenham player Graham Roberts has said that he finds it “absolutely amazing” that Man City haven’t sold out for the Champions League quarter-final against Spurs at the Etihad tonight.

Roberts was talking on the Jim White Show (talkSPORT, Wednesday, 12pm) where he predicted that Tottenham would beat Man City and progress to the semi-finals of the Champions League.

“I’ve just heard this morning that Man City haven’t sold out their seats which I find absolutely amazing,” Roberts said. “I can assure you whatever’s left, Tottenham fans will be trying to buy them.”

Roberts thinks Tottenham have the firepower to blast City out of the Champions League on Wednesday night.

“What we got to do is get a goal,” he said. “If we get a goal the pressure’s on City. The firepower we’ve got, we’ve Lucas Moura, Son and Dele Alli.

“If we can play our own game like we did against Liverpool I expect us to score a goal and possibly two goals and there will be lots of pressure on City.

“I’m confident that we’re going to win tonight.”

OPINION

It does seem crazy that Man City can’t sell out a game like this – a quarter-final in the Champions League, against English opposition, with their team a goal down. Pep Guardiola appealed for City fans to show up and support their side, but they’ve always had a problem filling the stadium for their European games. Roberts is bang on – Tottenham fans are desperate to see the game and most other clubs in the Premier League would be able to sell out a game like this – and the crowd can definitely have an impact on a game like this. You think of famous games at Anfield where the crowd has almost sucked the ball into the goal from the Kop. A less-than-capacity Etihad will play into Tottenham’s hands and their fans will be sure to make as much noise as they possibly can. The tie is on a knife edge but if Spurs score the first goal then they’ll be massively on top.
