Rangers are set to sign Jake Hastie from Motherwell in the coming week, according to STV.

The broadcaster claims that the 20-year-old will agree to sign for the Light Blues on a pre-contract in the coming days.

It is understood that a three-year deal is on the cards for the Motherwell attacker, who has also attracted attention from the English Championship, and Rangers will have the option to extend that agreement by an extra 12 months if they desire.

Good move for Rangers?

Although the Gers will have to pay a small compensation fee to sign Hastie from Motherwell, it will more than likely be worth it because he is a talented young attacker who is bound to have a good future in the game.

Since returning to Motherwell after a loan stint at Alloa in January, the Scotland Under-21 international has scored six goals in 12 Scottish Premiership appearances, which is impressive for a young player who does not have a lot of top-flight experience.

He should fit in well with the high number of young players at Ibrox and Steven Gerrard could do with some more depth added to his attack once Ryan Kent’s loan spell ends.

Likely to happen?

STV’s report certainly suggests that the deal is all but done, and all that remains is for Hastie to sign on the dotted line and have the move confirmed by both Rangers and Motherwell.

Once that happens, Hastie will have to wait until the end of his contract at Fir Park before properly joining the Gers, but that is basically a formality and he will more than likely be at Auchenhowie before then.
