Rangers are “close” to signing forward Greg Stewart from Birmingham, according to the Express.

The newspaper claims that Steven Gerrard is keen to add more quality to his squad in the summer transfer window and the Gers are already on the verge of signing the 29-year-old centre-forward, who is currently on loan at Aberdeen.

Stewart spent the first half of the season on loan at Kilmarnock but made a temporary switch to Pittodrie in January, where he has scored one goal and supplied three assists in 17 appearances since.

Good move for Rangers?

Stewart was very impressive for Kilmarnock earlier this season, scoring eight goals and supplying seven assists in 16 appearances across all competitions. Overall his stats for the 2018/19 campaign are decent with him being involved in 19 goals for both Killie and Aberdeen.

However since returning to the Dons in January, he has not been in great form and Rangers fans will surely be worried by the striker’s lack of goals at Pittodrie when Gerrard is reportedly close to signing him.

Stewart’s contract with Birmingham expires in the summer so it seems like he will be heading to Ibrox on a free transfer.

Although there’s not much money going to be involved in signing the Stirling-born striker, it’s not really the level of signing that Rangers should be looking at.

Likely to happen?

Stewart will surely be on the move in the summer with his deal at Birmingham coming to an end and judging by this report, Rangers are already edging closer to completing a deal.

Gerrard will definitely add to his side in the transfer window after a mixed bag of results in his first season as Gers manager.

Stewart could be the first of many arrivals in the summer.
