Kilmarnock winger Jordan Jones has been involved in a Twitter spat over his move to Rangers with former Partick Thistle ace Kai Quitongo giving a stern warning about Celtic winning 10 league titles in a row.

The Hoops are gunning for their eighth consecutive league title this season and could seal it if Rangers fail to win and the Bhoys can secure three points of their own this weekend.

Jones, who signed a pre-contract at Ibrox in the January transfer window, tweeted on his personal account that Tottenham’s Heung-min Son was the greatest Asian footballer ever, with Quitongo arguing that it was Shunsuke Nakamura.

The conversation then turned into a spat about their club loyalties, Jones saying: “Oooooo look at me I’m a Celtic fan and all the Celtic fans will like my tweet oooooo grow up mate.”

Kaitongo issued a stern warning to the winger, stating: “Oh we’re a rangers man now..careful mate you’re not in Glasgow yet. enjoy watching 10iar brother.”

Opinion

It seems as though Jones has nailed his colours to the Rangers mast already, despite having the rest of the season to see out with Kilmarnock. This is the sort of thing he will have to deal with on a much more regular basis now that he is on his way to Ibrox, although it will usually be the fans and not his peers taking aim at who he plays for. Quitongo might have been making a tongue in cheek comment about Celtic’s reign of dominance but for Jones and his future teammates at Rangers, their sole aim is to topple their fierce rivals from their lofty heights – and the Northern Irish winger has been brought in to try and achieve their goals next season. Fail, and Celtic could well be winning 10 league titles in a row. Succeed, and Scottish football will finally have its greatest rivalry back. It will be a tough task for Jones and the Rangers players but it seems he is ready for a fight when it comes to stopping the Hoops.
