West Ham are in “pole position” to sign Liverpool right-back Nathaniel Clyne, according to Football Insider

The 28-year-old has been at Bournemouth on loan since January and has given himself the chance of a permanent move after making himself first-choice under Eddie Howe.

FI claim that Bournemouth want to sign him but that West Ham are leading the way for a player that Liverpool are happy to sell in the summer.

Clyne is out of contract in 2020 but Liverpool are said to be confident of getting an eight-figure fee for him.

Good move for West Ham?

We think so. We’re fans of former England international Clyne, who was unlucky to see his career stall at Liverpool after a back injury caused him to miss most of the 17/18 season. During that time Trent Alexander-Arnold broke through and his time at Anfield is now thought to be over. He’s been impressive at Bournemouth and at 28 he’s still got plenty left in the tank. Liverpool probably will get an eight-figure fee for him but a low one should still be considered a bargain for a player who could hold down the right-back position for West Ham for years. Pablo Zabaleta is out of contract in the summer and Ryan Fredericks hasn’t lived up to expectations since arriving from Fulham.

Likely to happen?

He’s very likely to leave in the summer as it will be Liverpool’s last chance to get a fee for a player who was shown to have no future at the club after being farmed out on loan in January. He’s good enough to end up at a Premier League club and is said to be keen on a move back to London after playing 137 games for Crystal Palace.
