Harry Redknapp has said that he can see Mark Noble managing West Ham in the future.
The 31-year-old midfielder has been with West Ham all his career and is homing in on 500 appearances for the club.
Talking on talkSPORT Redknapp was asked if he could see Noble taking on the manager’s job in the future.
“I think one day down the line, why not?” Redknapp said. “Mark a great lad, he’s been an excellent captain and he’s a leader in the dressing room.
“Why not promote from within in the future when you’ve got somebody like that? Why do you have to go and get another foreign manager? There’s a lad there who knows the game and knows the club inside out, why shouldn’t you groom him, put him on the staff and let him come through and eventually become manager?
“It would be great for West Ham.”
OPINION
Mark Noble is West Ham through and through. He’s so West Ham he was probably born on the centre-circle at Upton Park. He’ll be 34 when his current contract runs out and by that time he will have sailed through the 500 appearances mark. Fans would no doubt love it if he stayed with the club in a coaching capacity and moved up through the ranks to manager. Of course, not every player is set up for managing and it’s not an easy job, but if anyone knows the club and what it means to represent it, it’s Noble. So we’re with Redknapp on this – it would make a lot of sense. However, we were disappointed to see yet another dig at “foreign managers”. That’s just not necessary. Foreign managers, like Pep Guardiola, Jurgen Klopp and Marcelo Bielsa have added a huge amount to the Premier League and the Championship. We shouldn’t reduce the argument to “If he’s British he should get the job”.
