Darren Gough revealed he wasn’t sure Manuel Pellegrini was the right manager for West Ham which prompted Adrian Durham to suggest Sheffield United boss Chris Wilder as a possible replacement.

The retired cricketer shared that he thought the Hammers should be doing better as they have several good players on their books and in his opinion they needed someone other than Pellegrini in charge.

“I still think, I’m not sure West Ham have got the right manager that’s my own personal opinion everyone else will probably love him but my personal opinion is they’ve got some very good players West Ham and they should be in a better position at this time,” said Gough on talkSPORT (17:35, Monday April 29th).

After lengthy explanation, which even saw an ad break occur, Durham came up with a potential contender to replace Pellegrini by mooting the idea of Wilder; although quickly admitted he was the right fit for the Blades currently.

“Chris Wilder perhaps? Although it’s a good fit with Sheffield United,” suggested Durham on talkSPORT (17:44pm, Monday April 29th).

OPINION

West Ham achieve a fantastic result against Tottenham at the weekend by beating them 1-0, yet some are still on the verge of calling for Pellegrini’s head. What more could the experience manager do at this stage of the season? It’s true the Hammers have been inconsistent across the board and they have lost games they shouldn’t have, but is more change at the London Stadium really going to help? Pellegrini took over the reigns of the club in the summer then several new players arrived to improve his squad. These players were always going to take time to settle, with the likes of Felipe Anderson having never played in England before, and it’s no surprise the team have been inconsistent as a result. If Pellegrini is still struggling to get the best out of West Ham next season, then it makes sense to consider his position. However if the Hammers board axe him anytime soon, then it will surely be a mistake.
