West Ham surprisingly beat Tottenham 1-0 at the weekend in order to be the first away side to win in Spurs’ new stadium.

Given the rivalry between the two clubs, many Spurs fans would have been hoping that of all the teams that would be first to beat them at their fancy new ground, it wouldn’t be the Hammers.

However due to Michail Antonio on Saturday, it was.

Adrian Durham and Darren Gough discussed the Hammers being able to beat Spurs, when they’ve had contrasting seasons and it’s clear to see they are painting a frustrating scenario for many Tottenham supporters.

Durham sarcastically asked whether Gough thought West Ham fans would be respectful and not ram it down Spurs’ throats and the retired cricketer’s remarks didn’t exactly dismiss that scenario.

“It’s unbelievable, yeah,” said Gough on talkSPORT (17:32, Monday April 29th).

“The first team to beat Tottenham in their new stadium, Wessssst Haaaaaam, they’re gonna love it.”

Gough seemed to be of the belief that Hammers fans were going to lap up their victory for at least a good while yet and that’s only going to make the loss against the Hammers feel even worse for Spurs fans.

It was already bad enough given the two club’s rivalry and the fact he didn’t help in the race to finish in the Premier League’s top-four, but the thought of West Ham fans have something to brag about at Spurs’ expense is no doubt a sore point.

It seems likely that West Ham fans will focus on this result as a highlight of their season, and not let Spurs forget it, as it has been a fairly disappointing campaign all accounts for them.

The Hammers spent a lot of money in the summer, hired a capable manager in the form of Manuel Pellegrini, but the club only sit 11th in the league, notably 19 points of sixth-placed Manchester United.

So with that in mind Gough highlighting how Hammers fans will no doubt potentially ram the loss down Spurs’ throats as it was unbelievable, it was like having extra salt poured in their wounds.
