Adrian Durham believes that if West Ham can hold onto Declan Rice they can make a real push for top four in the next few Premier League seasons.

After the Hammers managed to secure the victory in a 1-0 away win at Spurs at the weekend, the talkSPORT broadcaster claimed the Hammers should aiming to finish in the Premier League’s top-four.

“They need to be more consistent.” said Durham to talkSPORT.

“If they keep Rice, they’re serious about making headway towards the top four.”

“That should be where they’re aiming.”

Arguably, West Ham are still no where near where they should be if they want to be challenging higher up in the Premier League.

To challenge for the top four, there are still so many changes that would need to be made, to bring the Hammers up to the same standard as the so-called ‘Big Six’.

Although Pellegrini would be making a huge statement if he were to hold onto the services of Rice and other important players ahead of expected summer interest, there would surely need to be a number of new successful signings to give the Hammers that well-needed boost to climb higher in the league standings.

Durham seems to have got seriously carried away in his comments regarding West Ham, and needs to remember that the club currently sit in 11th position in the Premier League, which seems pretty low for a club who should supposedly be challenging for top four.

Although Pellegrini could definitely be the man to rejuvenate West Ham in the league, he would need significant financial backing and a number of new signings to get anywhere close to a Champions League qualification spot.

Realistically, it seems highly unlikely that West Ham will be a top four club in the Premier League anytime soon and Durham is setting the bar too high by stating that’s where they should aim.

If the broadcaster really thinks the Hammers should be thinking about finishing in the top-four anytime soon, he really is in dreamland, they just need to focus on consistently finishing in the top-10.
