Chris Waddle revealed that he didn’t think Tottenham have enough top-class players in reserve to call upon to help cope with the heavy fixture load.

The BBC pundit pinpointed what Spurs lack after the 1-0 loss to Manchester City and shared he simply thought they didn’t have six brilliant players waiting in the wings that allowed Mauricio Pochettino to make mass changes to his team week to week.

Waddle claimed he thought Spurs had a big enough squad but questioned the quality available to the Spurs boss.

“I think they’ve had a heavy fixture load and they haven’t got the squad,” said Waddle on BBC Radio 5 Live (17:11, Saturday April 20th).

“They’ve got a big squad don’t me wrong, but maybe the quality where you can change six or seven and the six who come in are brilliant players, I don’t think Tottenham have got that.

“I think they have very good players but I don’t thing they have that luxury of saying we can rest six players in and bring six top-class players in, erm so he’s had to juggle.”

It’s hard to argue with Waddles’ verdict on the Spurs’ squad as it’s clear they could do with more quality in depth.

You just have to look at the forward options Pochettino has to choose from when main man Harry Kane ends up getting stuck on the sidelines due to injury.

While Spurs have shown they can cope without Kane on these occasions this season, it’s been because of other players in other positions steppingĀ  up and contributing more goals than they usually do.

Given that this issue Waddle has pinpointed does lead to Pochettino having to do a juggling act with his players when the fixtures come thick and fast, it shows the uphill battle he faces to achieve success.

The Spurs boss’ squad is balanced finally like a house of cards and too many injury blows will see it collapse, and that shows the risky game the London club are playing and how hard it is to compete on multiple front for trophies.

While Spurs haven’t spent big in recent windows, you feel they need to make at least a few signings in the summer to provide Pochettino with the quality depth he needs to start racking up silverware.
