Tottenham have not been active in the last couple of transfer windows, and the fans will no doubt be looking to Daniel Levy to make some stellar signings.

There will surely come a time when they start to grow impatient with the lack of players coming into the club, so Levy must make sure that he does not risk their wrath by recruiting some top quality faces in a few months’ time.

One player that the supporters would love to see enter through the doors of the club is Ajax defender Matthijs de Ligt. He is sought-after at the moment, however, the fans will surely groan after Football Insider reported that Spurs are behind Barcelona in the race to sign him.

This is no doubt the same old story for the fans – missing out on a top player to one of Europe’s biggest teams is like deja-vu for the North London outfit.

They really need to step up in their attempts to sign the 19-year-old, as the last thing they need is to be beaten to his signature by the La Liga giants.

Spurs would surely strike gold with the capture of the Dutch ace – he has already proved how important he is to Ajax’s season by scoring the winning goal against Juventus in the Champions League not long ago.

It remains to be seen whether Toby Alderweireld is going to stay at the club this summer, but if he does leave, then De Ligt – who has 15 caps for Holland – is without a doubt the perfect replacement for him.

However, first they need to blow Barcelona out of the water in their attempts to sign the centre-back. This time around, they simply cannot let a player like him slip from their clutches.
