Tim Sherwood has heaped praise on Tottenham forward Son Heung-min.

The South Korean has been forced to step up to the plate in the absence of Harry Kane this season, but has thrived under the pressure, hitting 20 goals in all competitions.

Son is suspended for the first leg of Spurs’ Champions League clash with Ajax on Tuesday night, but will be available for the return fixture, and former Spurs boss Sherwood has been quick to sing his praises.

Speaking on talkSPORT (April 26th, 8.30am), he said: “They’re going to miss Harry Kane [against Ajax], any team would, but Son is just loving the responsibility.

“He’s stepping up to the mark since Harry’s not been there. He’s got the freedom to run in behind. He plays with great spirit, he’s a fantastic professional.

“That boy you want in your dressing room every day of the week.”

OPINION

Son has been truly incredible this season. When Spurs have needed him most he has really pulled his socks up and has carried that side at times. He is lethally quick, constantly positive, and seems to love every second of every game he plays. That kind of enthusiasm is infectious, and has given Spurs a real lift at times this season. In many ways you could even argue that it was an affront for him to not be included in the Premier League team of the year. That is less a reflection on him and more a statement on how good the competition has been this season, but certainly, he deserves recognition one way or another. This has been the season where Son has truly made the step up to becoming a proper, world class talent, and if he can continue on this trajectory, who knows where he might end up in a year or two.
