Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino is looking to sell up to £100million worth of players to help fund a five player spending spree this summer, according to the Daily Mail.

The newspaper claim that the Spurs boss wants as many as five new additions to his squad at a cost of around £150million, having been handed an initial £60million transfer budget which can be topped up with the sale of players.

As a result, it is stated that a number of first team players face the chopping block, with Pochettino said to be open to offers for Danny Rose, Victor Wanyama and Georges-Kevin Nkoudou, while Toby Alderweireld, Christian Eriksen and Kieran Trippier could also depart to give the manager the extra £100m he wants.

Good move for Tottenham?

A risky one, no doubt about that. The likes of Rose and Wanyama have played their part this season, especially in recent weeks, while there is no getting over how important Alderweiereld and Eriksen have been.

Taking away the core of the side is a gamble which could backfire on Pochettino, especially if he ends up replacing them with players who are as yet unproven in the Premier League.

It seems as though this will be a summer of change for Spurs, but whether that is for the best, only time will tell.

Likely to happen?

Alderweireld and Eriksen’s contract situation means that they are both likely to be offloaded, while there will surely be suitors out there for Wanyama, Trippier and Rose after their performances over the past few seasons.

It might not be what Spurs fans want but cashing in is the only way they are going to see more top quality talent move to north London and so Pochettino has to put emotion aside and focus on what is best for the club.
