Mauricio Pochettino has responded to his side’s so called goal-scoring issue ahead of Tottenham’s clash with Ajax in the Champions League.

Tottenham are going through a mini-crisis in terms of attacking options with Harry Kane out injured and Heung-Min Son suspended for the first leg.

Pochettino’s side go into the first leg at home on the back of a 1-0 defeat to West Ham and suffered a disappointing day in-front of goal in their first loss at the new stadium.

Speaking in his pre-match press conference, the Argentine said: “I do not care who will score, I just hope we win. The most important thing is to work together and always give the ball to the best-placed person to score”.

OPINION

Pochettino will certainly not care who scores if his Tottenham side beat Ajax and can take a lead to Amsterdam in the second leg. The issue of where the goals will come from will be worrying, especially now he will be without two of his side’s main sources of goals. The previous two home games will tell everyone all they need to know ahead of this one, a lot of huffing and puffing in front of goal but with no end product. A long range Christian Eriksen strike saved Spurs against Brighton but there were no such saviours in the West Ham game. Both Llorente and Vincent Janssen wasted chances and Lucas Moura will have a lot of pressure on his shoulders to be his side’s main vocal point in terms of attacking and scoring the goals. Should Dele Alli and Eriksen be their usual creative selves, Spurs will have many chances against a young Ajax side and Lucas should be backed to put at least one of those away.
