Man United are ready to trigger the £25million release clause for centre-back Toby Alderweireld, according to the Sun.
The report claims that while the club is yet to contact Tottenham about the deal, Alderweireld himself is keen on a move to Old Trafford.
Tottenham triggered a one-year option on Alderweireld over the summer but that put in the £25million clause, which comes into effect when the summer window opens.
Good move for United?
Without a shadow of a doubt. Alderweireld has been brilliant for Spurs again this season and fans don’t want to see him go. The 30-year-old Belgium international has made 40 appearances across all competitions and he’s homing in on 100 appearances for his country – he’s won 90 caps and scored three goals for his country so far. World-class centre-backs don’t come cheap and £25million would represent a significant bargain for the player, despite his age. He’s a player who would slot straight into the United first-team and would be a significant upgrade on any of the players they’ve got at the moment.

Likely to happen?
That’s down to Alderweireld. Tottenham can’t stop him leaving as long as a club comes in and matches the £25million release clause. Then it’s down to the player, but the Sun report claims he’s keen on a United move and they would certainly offer him a lucrative contract that would take into account the low fee. We can definitely see Alderweireld in a United shirt next season but they surely won’t be the only team in for him over the summer.
