King: Eriksen is magic

Ledley King has heaped praise on Tottenham midfielder Christian Eriksen, hailing the Dane as “magic”.

The 27-year-old has been in typically fine form this season, scoring nine goals and creating 17 more in all competitions, and Spurs legend King has been quick to sing his praises.

Speaking on Sky Sports’ coverage of Spurs’ clash with West Ham on Saturday (Sky Sports Premier League, April 27th, 12.10pm), he said: “He’s a terrific player.

“He’s got that ability to unlock defences. He can create a bit of magic, whether it’s an assist or the ability to shoot from distance.

“Vitally important player for the team.”

Unfortunately, Eriksen couldn’t inspire his side this afternoon, with Tottenham losing 1-0 to West Ham.

OPINION

Tottenham fans won’t need King to tell them how good Eriksen is, but his opinion will certainly be important to them. The ex-Spurs man is a hero round that way, and if he endorses a player, you know he’s the real deal. The Dane has proven again and again that he is a magical footballer, but the obvious concern for Tottenham will be that they may not be able to keep him beyond the end of his current deal. That expires at the end of next season, and the choice they face is whether or not they should cash in now or wait it out and see if they can convince him to stay, knowing that he could leave on a free if no resolution is found. Neither prospect is particularly appealing, and the hopes will be that some kind of miraculous U-turn is enacted to prevent the loss of a key talent.
