Tottenham released a statement on Thursday evening confirming that striker Harry Kane will miss the rest of the season after suffering “a significant lateral ligament injury to his left ankle” in the Champions League game against Man City on Tuesday.

The official statement says that tests are ongoing but the Independent report that he will miss the rest of the season.

The official Tottenham update also confirmed that Dele Alli fractured his hand in the same game.

It is said that he will be “assessed” ahead of the Premier League game against Huddersfield on Saturday, with the hope being he could play through the injury.

OPINION

Bad news for Tottenham but this was expected after Kane left the field straight away on Tuesday night and was seen being helped down the tunnel. It seems that Spurs will have to finish the season without him and that will put the pressure on Heung-min Son, who’s already scored twice in the new stadium. He also scored three goals in the four games that Harry Kane was missing for with his last injury and he will be confident that he can fire Tottenham into the last four of the Champions League. It will be interesting to see the team Mauricio Pochettino puts out against Huddersfield. Will he rest Son with the huge Champions League clash coming up next week and a Premier League fixture against Pep’s men the following weekend? It could mean Lucas Moura coming in to lead the line on Saturday. The hope is that Alli will be able to play through his fractured hand, just like Jamie Vardy did for Leicester in his blue cast.
