Ian Holloway has said that Harry Kane is a “unique” player and that his latest injury is a big blow for both Tottenham and England.

Talking on the Jim White Show (talkSPORT, Friday, 10am), Holloway was discussing the confirmed injury that will rule Kane out for the rest of the season, and potentially the Nations League semi-final in June.

He said that Kane didn’t need to make the challenge in the game against Man City but that he would never change and offered so much more than other strikers.

“He’s a brain on legs,” Holloway said. ” Some strikers are pace or power, Harry is so intelligent and he’s a playmaker as well. He’s unique.”

OPINION

Kane has developed as a player and you’re now just as likely to see him dropping deep and even starting a move off, than poaching in the box. However, his weakness is his ankle. He was out for two periods in the 16/17 season and the same has happened this campaign. Holloway says he’ll never change but Kane should perhaps look at the challenge that caused this latest injury and ask himself whether it was necessary. From the outside it looked completely needless and thus the injury was one that could have been avoided. Tottenham should be okay without him, with Heung-min Son on top form, and that’s perhaps something we wouldn’t have said before. So, progression of sorts for Spurs, but Kane will still be a huge miss and there’s a big chance he won’t be fit for the Nations League match in June against the Netherlands. One thing it should make very clear is the need for a good second striker to be signed by Daniel Levy in the summer.
